Tails in the distribution of JPY/USD exchange rate returns are well approximated by an exponentially dampened power-law. Distribution parameter estimates indicate that yen appreciation jumps belong to a Levy process with unbounded variation, suggesting that same mechanism may be responsible for fluctuations in normal times as well as rare crashes. In contrast, yen depreciation jumps have a well defined second moment suggesting a Gaussian regime. In addition, extreme episodes of yen appreciation are larger and more persistent than episodes of yen depreciation. The asymmetry is magnified and power-law tails are more elongated during times of higher interest rate differential between U.S. and Japan and higher level of VIX indicating that carry trade may be the driver. We propose a model of strategic carry trader behavior that in equilibrium generates exponentially dampened power-law distribution of jumps in foreign exchange along with “up by the stairs down by the elevator” dynamics arising from the assymetries between negative and positive jumps.  相似文献

A brand choice model for TV advertising management using single-source data is proposed. The model replaces household-specific advertising exposure, which is often used as a covariate in a brand choice model, with gross rating points (GRP), a managerial control variable for advertising. In particular, given daily GRP, a probabilistic model of advertising exposure for heterogeneous customers is integrated into a brand choice model with advertising threshold under a Bayesian framework. Through hierarchical modeling, demographic information on panels provides managerial insights into advertising planning.  相似文献

Drawing on positive psychology and self‐determination theories, this study investigates the direct and indirect effects of empowering leadership on meaningful work of employees, particularly through the mediation of learning goal orientation. Longitudinal survey data of 388 employees in medical institutions were used to test the hypotheses. The results support the direct positive relationship between empowering leadership and meaningful work, but also emphasize the mediating effect of learning goal orientation within this relationship. This study is among the first to examine the effect of mediation by learning goal orientation upon the relationship between empowering leadership and meaningful work.  相似文献

Recently a number of studies have recognized that trade policy can be substituted for by competition policy. This study demonstrates, however, that there is a fundamental difference in the working of terms‐of‐trade effects between competition policy and tariff policy and that if countries optimally set their respective competition policies, it is unlikely to result in a tariff‐war‐like state in which all countries adopt distortionary policies. Instead, in a Nash equilibrium, one country maintains perfect competition in its domestic service sector while the other country tolerates imperfect competition.  相似文献

The entire fairness test that the Delaware Court of Chancery developed in the famous Technicolor case defines what constitutes fair dealings and fair pricing. This study introduces a new concept of fairness, called competitive fairness, that covers entire fairness. It develops what I call open market bargaining theory and demonstrates that the Technicolor outcome is an open market bargaining equilibrium, which can be thought as competitively fair under the nondiscrimination rule of markets.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to construct a theoretical framework for the labor market, which is composed of a variety of jobs with different wage determination mechanisms. We identify an equilibrium in which some firms post a wage and others bargain with workers. This paper shows that the proportion of firms adopting wage bargaining in a decentralized equilibrium is below the socially optimal level. We identify policies to increase this proportion and to improve social efficiency. Furthermore, we examine the impact of those policies on unemployment. The results of this study will determine the direction of employment policy on the labor market with various employment styles.  相似文献

The purposes of this research were to examine developmental experience at different career stages and to clarify the role of sales beliefs in promoting experiential learning of salespeople. By applying the theoretical framework of expertise research and cognitive psychology, data from Japanese real estate salespeople were analyzed. Results suggest that (1) experiential learning is activated in the later stage (from 6 to 10 years) of a career, and (2) salespeople who balance customer and goal achievement orientations learn from others in the early stage (from 1 to 5 years) of their careers. This article presents a microfounded model of money with a consumption and an investment market. We consider an economy in which only part of the investment returns can be pledged. A liquidity constraint arises when the pledgeable part of the returns are not enough to pay for investment costs. We show that when the liquidity constraint is binding, agents may make a cash downpayment and money can perform two roles—as a provider of liquidity services and exchange services. The liquidity constraint constitutes a channel though which underinvestment occurs even at low inflation rates.  相似文献

Morishima's Generalized Fundamental Marxian Theorem (GFMT) is an extended form of Okishio's Fundamental Marxian Theorem, which showed the equivalence between positive profit and the exploitation of labor. GFMT is not developed as a system of equivalence proposition between five conditions, which I call ‘The Strong System of Exploitation Theory’. But by the definition of this system, there remains the possibility of positive profit without exploitation. In this paper, I demonstrated an alternative system of equivalence proposition, naming it ‘The Weak System of Exploitation Theory’, in which positive profits always mean exploitation. Here I introduced workers' utility function to define the exploitation concept. Then I could also show that the exploitation is equivalent with the situation where workers' utilities are under‐maximized.  相似文献
